Basata Gives Reasons for Postponing TMA Music Awards

The National Arts Council ‘Basata’ has announced the postponement of the TMA awards ceremony, which was expected to take place today, December 13, 2025.

Through an official statement released today, December 13, 2025 on their Instagram page, they apologized for not having the event.

“We would like to inform you that the TMA event scheduled for 13/12/2025 has been postponed until another date is announced. We apologize for any inconvenience caused,” the statement said.

However, speaking to Mwananchi, Edward Buganga, who is the Director of Arts Promotion and Development at Basata, said that there are still things that are not right.

“We have postponed the announcement, the environment itself is not what you see at this time. Our preparations are not yet well-prepared, we need funding and many things, so we are still in the process of preparing, we are putting things in order,” said Buganga.

It should be noted that the Tanzania Music Awards (TMA) were established in 1999 by the National Arts Council BASATA to recognize talent and creativity in the country’s music industry and lasted for 16 years, from 1999 to 2015.

The awards were previously known as the Kilimanjaro Music Awards. The ‘Kili Music Awards’ returned in 2022 and were known as the Tanzania

Music Awards TMA after not being held for seven consecutive years from 2015 to 2022.
